What Comes Next

August 2. 2012

Shadows long

and awkward

begin to form.

That which was once

bright now faded.

Seeds rattle themselves

free pulled along by

unseen silver moon

lost in summer fog

they chart a course

for dark aching earth.

What comes next

is blinking

in the shadows.

Carol Carlisle

We Write Poems    suggested writing a poem that begins and ends with the same word but changes meaning. I started this piece and didn’t know where to go until I remembered this prompt which helped me end it. The inspiration is my photo this artichokes  thistle and its shadows..

PS. Happy National Watermelon Day

We must have had a
good time last night

I still remember                                                                                                                                                                                                            the garlic fries and watermelon beer.

  1. At first quick glance all I noticed as the lovely artichoke, and missed the shadows. (are they artichokes?) Then all I could see were the shadows. It is difficult to keep light and shadow in view at the same time.
